Of all the world’s tropical islands, the Alphonse group of atolls is considered one of the last remaining, pristine natural escapes. Consisting of three idyllic islands, it provides travellers the luxury and laze of a remote island getaway as well as the knowledge that their impact is minimal and their money goes toward sound conservation programmes. Knowing this, the three islands of Alphonse, St Francois and Bijoutier become a 2 wonderous outdoor playground for nature lovers.
With only 22 bungalows and 5 suites, no single spot on the islands is ever crowded – not the white beaches or the dense natural forest it fringes; not the old coconut groves or the family of ancient tortoises. Life here is simple, yet it can be as active or relaxing as one desires. Snorkelling, diving, fly-fishing and hiking allow travellers to experience the natural beauty intimately while lazy sunset cruises, dolphin trips and candle lit dinners with the water lapping at the table provide the chance to truly unwind and reconnect with loved-ones, yourself, and nature.
The larger archipelago of the Seychelles consists of 115 islands. The main island is Mahé, where the capital of Victoria is found. The Seychelles has a small population of just over 92 000 people, displaying a multiracial blend of African, Asian and European descent to create a modern Creole culture. French and English are the official languages along with Seychellois Creole. The majority of the islands are uninhabited, with more than 50% of the total land area under natural conservation – a world record.
