We leave Marrakech after breakfast and drive to Imlil (1740m) via Asni. Imlil is the principal trailhead for walkers. At Imlil you meet our mule team where your gear is loaded. Then you begin walking along the valley towards Tacheddirt, some 8 km from Imlil. The trail will begin to rise as you climb to the pass at Tizi ‘n Tamatert (2279m). You then descend to the pretty village of Ouaneskra (2200m). Half an hour later you arrive at Tacheddirt (2300m). Your mobile camp will be erected near the river. Approximately 4 hours of walking will be encountered in your first day of trekking.
You immediately begin a long, slow ascent to the pass at Tizi Likemt (3555m). At the top you will enjoy your first spectacular view of the Toubkal Massif before a long downhill descent to the village of Azib Likemt (2200m) where your mobile camp will be erected for the night. Approximately 5 hours of walking will be encountered in your second day of trekking.
You will pass many different landscapes today. From Tizi ‘n Ououraine (3120m) witness gorgeous views of the Toubkal Massif, which will include the summit, the east face and the Ifni Dome (3876m). The trail leads toward Amzouzert (1700m). Amzouzert is one of the most striking villages in the region. Here we will spend the night in a local gite.Gites are part government funded part locally owned guesthouses and are simple traditional buildings with a number of private rooms and shared facilities. Sometimes hot showers are available. Approximately 6 hours of walking will be encountered in your third day of trekking.
West of Amsouzert are several small villages which you explore as you make your way towards Ifni Lake (2300m). The only lake in the Massif, Ifni Lake is surrounded by rocky mountains and giant heaps of rubble, and is unusually deep. This is an unforgettable sight where you will rest for lunch. The afternoon will be spent relaxing at the shore where your mobile camp will be erected for the night. Approximately 4 hours of walking will be encountered in your fourth day of trekking.
By now you should be both fit and acclimatised and ready to tackle the hardest day of the trek. Make your way along a steep path leading up a seemingly endless scree slope to the pass at Tizi n’Ouanoums (3664m) which is a narrow ledge between two shafts of rock. From there it is a long zigzag descent to Nelther Refuge (3200m) where your mobile camp will be erected for the night. Approximately 6 hours of walking will be encountered in your fifth day of trekking.
An early start before dawn and off you go following a well-worn route to the summit of Toubkal (4167m). Weather permitting you should be able to reach the summit in 2-3 hours. Breathtaking views of the entire Atlas range and the Marrakech plains await you. Returning to base you then descend fairly rapidly to the villages of Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd before following the Mizane River. A forested trail takes you back to Imlil. From here you are transfered back to your hotel Riad in Marrakech. Approximately 9 hours of walking will be encountered in your sixth day of trekking.
Transfer from your hotel Riad back to Marrakech Menara Airport for connecting flights.
