WILDLIFE IN ZAMBIA & FRIENDLY MALAWI’S STUNNING LAKE
It’s not every day that you get to combine the bush and the beach without travelling for hours. It’s even more rare to visit a flour white beach, which isn’t beside the ocean. On this trip, you’ll visit Zambia’s incredible South Luangwa National Park before jetting off to Lake Malawi – arguably the most beautiful tropical setting in a landlocked country.
Watch wildlife drink in South Luangwa from the comfort of your private deck, which overlooks a beautiful lagoon. The region of the park where you’ll be spending the first night in this park is known for its prolific game, so look out for giraffe, buffalo, antelope, crocodile come to drink. This camp is also renowned for the elephants that visit every October and November, as they walk straight through the camp’s lobby to reach a wild mango tree on the grounds.
From the two accommodations where you’ll be staying inside South Luangwa National Park, the second is the highlight. There’s just something magical about sleeping under canvas in the bush. It ignites a sense of adventure in everyone. The entire time spent in South Luangwa will be dedicated to game drives, game walks, sundowners in the bush and relaxing spa treatments at the camps.
You next stop is a short flight away. Malawi is known as the warm heart of Africa, due to the friendly nature of its people. A third of this landlocked country is also covered in water – the beautiful Lake Malawi is a place of relaxation, tropical dives and snorkelling and hours on the powdery beaches.
You’ll get to stay on a small island in the lake where the cottages walk out into the water and spa overhangs the calm waters. Meals are made using local, organic produce and fish is caught in the lake. End your trip in style, by dining on the beach by candlelight as the star dance above you.
The first camp where guests will be staying in the South Luangwa National Park is situated on the banks of two lagoons and shaded by ebony and mahogany trees. The 18 thatched chalets have secluded verandas from which to watch the wallowing hippos and thirsty game in the lagoons. The refurbished African interiors are the perfect place to wind down with their comfortable sitting rooms and en-suite bathrooms with panoramic walk-in showers. There is a swimming pool at the main lodge.
The second accommodation is also inside the South Luangwa National Park and gives guests a chance to explore a different section of the park. Also set beside a lagoon, this tented camp looks out over elephants drinking and hippos chortling. The four comfortable tents as well as the main lodge area overlook the lagoon.
The tents boast stripped wooden floors, four-poster beds, cosy sitting rooms, en suite bathrooms and vaulted canvas ceilings. The private decks jut out over the lagoon. Two of the tents have twin beds (queen-sized beds) and two have doubles (king-sized bed).
At Lake Malawi, guests will have the privilege of staying on Likoma Island on the lake. The luxurious lodge is set beside a bay and consists of a bar, dining room and rock pool. The wide range of romantic cottages and family villas are homely, sturdy and a deck scattered with pillows and through overhang the lake. The honeymoon villa is luxurious and romantic and set on its own private island. The lodge is run in partnership with the local Malawian community.
