ENJOY VIC FALLS AND THEN GO ON A LUXURY SAFARI
Victoria Falls town lies on the southern bank of the Zambezi River at the eastern end of the Victoria Falls. It is a lovely tourist town which is easy to explore on foot and which offers a wide range of activities from the challenge of white water rafting and bungi jumping, to the awe-inspiring elephant back safaris and sunset cruises. It has something for everyone.
The Victoria Falls are one of the Seven Wonders of the World and is the largest sheet of falling water on earth – a spellbinding spectacle. It makes a thunderous roar and creates a magnificent spray of water that can be seen for miles – hence the local name ‘mosi oa tunya’ meaning ‘the smoke that thunders’.
The Linyanti Wildlife Reserve consists of 1,250 km2 of pristine wildlife area, bordered by the Linyanti River in the north and the Chobe National Park in the east. North of the Linyanti River lies Namibia’s Caprivi strip. The Selinda spillway links the area to the Okavango Delta. The region is one of the least visited and most pristine corners of Botswana, shared by a very small number of camps running on private concessions, ensuring that guests are able to view the abundant wildlife exclusively. The Linyanti area is renowned for its predators, in particular wild dog and this is one of the best areas in Botswana to look for them.
The Okavango Delta is one of the world’s largest inland deltas situated in the middle of the largest stretch of continuous sand in the world – the Kalahari basin. This oasis in the middle of the desert is a rich yet fragile ecosystem, providing a life source for an incredible variety of wildlife. A wealth of species have adapted to living in the harsh Kalahari desert which is transformed with the arrival of the delta flood waters originating in Angola.
The spacious tents of the Vic Falls River Lodge, standard, twin and family suites, are set right on the banks of the river. Each en suite tent has been decorated in earthy hues and offers a freestanding bath, sitting area, indoor and outdoor shower and a private viewing deck where one can sit and watch the wildlife.
The recently refurbished Selinda Camp has nine spacious guest tents under thatch, each with two comfortable three-quarter sized beds draped with flowing mosquito nets adding to the romantic atmosphere. The thatch roof combined with ceiling fans and roof vents cool the living space during the hot days. The rooms have spacious, en-suite bathrooms, with full sized stone baths and antique showers.
Small and intimate Baines’ Camp features just five luxurious suites set on elevated platforms in the tree line. The elevated suites on wooden decks offer expansive views over the lagoon which teems with life and features a spacious bedroom and elegant bathroom. At Baines’ Camp you have the unique opportunity to sleep under the stars on your fully mobile four-poster bed. The main area features an oversized deck for outdoor dining and offers views over the beautiful lagoon. There is a swimming pool with two thatched salas on either side for your relaxation during the day.
