SELINDA RESERVE, BOTSWANA, ADVENTURE TRAIL
Imagine discovering wild Africa much the same as the original explorers like Livingston and Selous. To head out into the bush and not see a single other human except the people in your party for days on end. To sip on strong, hot coffee by the fire in the morning, tuck into a delicious brunch under the shade as the sun reaches its zenith, and return to a kitted-out camp in the late afternoon for an ice cold drink and a hearty dinner.
Selinda Reserve in Northern Botswana is one of the few reserves where so little people have explored. It hosts all the greats: elephant, rhino, buffalo and others like roan antelope and African wild dog. Water miraculously started flowing again in the ancient spillways a decade ago, which gives you the unprecedented opportunity to explore the slice of wilderness by canoe. When the water levels are too low, you’ll be heading into the wild on foot, just like the explorers. Only this time with a qualified guide and tracker that know this region like the back of their hands.
Join the exclusive group of eight travellers knowing that your money goes toward active conservation programmes to protect the great animals that roam these plains. These four days will feel like an escape from the rat race. It’s a chance to slow down and reconnect with nature, but without compromising on comfort. The fly-camps provide a place to unwind and rest completely, so far from the cities that the stars will form a blanket above you.
Guests start their adventure with a scheduled helicopter flight to Selinda Airstrip. From here, the adventure begins. Head to the canoes or head off on your first guided walking safari. In the mornings, a light breakfast and coffee is served before setting off into the bush. Guests will be provided with a day pack every day that contains water, snacks, and anything else you might need. A hearty brunch in a scenic spot will mark the first rest.
Days are either spent heading down the Selinda Spillway and the side streams or exploring on foot. There is not set walking route and it all depends on what is out there, how the group is feeling, and where the guides feel the best sightings are. Arrive at the beautiful fly camps in the afternoon where everything is set up for relaxation. Dinner is prepared by a private chef according to guests’ requirements and everything from beer to imported champagne will be ready to pop.
The last morning ends with a short walk or canoe and a game drive back to Selinda Airstrip. Accommodation at one of the other Selinda Camps is recommended a night before and after the adventure trail.
