Despite being located in one of the wildest places on earth, set amongst the Quirimbas Archipelago in the calm, cyclone free waters off the coast of northern Mozambique, Vamizi offers the definitive experience of barefoot luxury in Africa.

The simple pleasure of being able to walk for hours along miles of deserted wild beach is a rarity. Doing this, and returning to a private villa nestled in the foliage a few metres from the beach, is even more esteemed. You’ll get to know the true meaning of being alone on a private island when you bring your loved one, family or group of closest friends to a one of Vamizi’s four Private Villas.

Of all Vamizi’s attractions, its beaches are undeniably one of its greatest. At times the sea can be so mirror calm that the silence of a beachcombing walk is not even punctuated by the sound of waves.

On the surface, Vamizi Island is utterly mellow.  Go a few feet below and everything changes, as the Vamizi seas – which residents share with no other tourists – are bristling with big ocean action.

Yet, despite being located in one of the wildest places on earth, in these calm, cyclone free waters, Vamizi offers a level of luxury unrivalled in Africa.

The Private Villas on Vamizi Island are loosely strung along the powder white beach, each far enough from the other to be oblivious of their existence. They are ideal of families, friends travelling together or couples wanting their own private hideaway.

Each villa is uniquely designed in its own elegant style with en-suite bedrooms, spectacular drawing and dining rooms, and peaceful lounging spaces around private pools or the beach.  The private chef and personal hospitality team will ensure all needs are met, from tailor-made menus to organising fishing and diving, spa treatments or dhow sailing trips.

Suluwilo (meaning ‘forest weaver’ in Kimwani) is a five bedroom private villa set within three acres of forest along a pristine white beach. Kipila (meaning ‘plover’ in Kimwani) also has five bedrooms and three acres of grounds as well as more than 125m of beachfront. Casamina is a six bedroom private villa, sleeping up to eight adults and eight children. Casa Marjani, marjani meaning ‘coral’ in Kimwani, is a five bedroom private villa, sleeping up to six adults and six children. It lies within 4.7 acres of forest and has over 130m of pristine beachfront offering absolute exclusivity and privacy.

On Vamizi there is no fixed itinerary. The relaxed nature of the island encourages you to spend every day exactly how you like without planning ahead further than 24 hours. Your personal attendant will see to it that you get to do all the activities you want, or none at all if you so wish. Everything will be set up for you in advance and you can just show up and enjoy the incredible things that you’re bound to see.

The dives here have been said to be some of the best in the world and the deep sea fishing is exquisite. Other iconic activities include snorkelling trips, castaway picnics, whale watching expeditions, kayak trips up the estuary, traditional dhow sunset cruises, nature walks, community visits and miles of miles of endless beach to explore on foot.
